This digital collage focuses on multiple aesthetics that have started from TikTok. Aesthetics such as the clean girl, grunge, indie, and party girl are all showcased in the image above. All together, this collage represents how people shape/base their identity on an aesthetic. Because of this, peoples true identities can get lost in trying to constantly upkeep the “look” of an aesthetic for social media, such as TikTok. When a new trend becomes popular, such as the indie aesthetic in 2020 during covid, people alter their “identities” to match the new trend, and their old “identity” gets lost in translation. However, new aesthetics also allow people to experiment with new looks and ways to express themselves. They can reinforce good habits, such as eating healthy or working out regularly. New aesthetics can also allow people to form niche communities across social media and feel a sense of belonging or community.
