Social media clash with cultures and civilization

Introduction: Social media has revolutionized how culture and society evolve by connecting people across the world. It shapes the ways we communicate, share ideas, influence one another with beliefs and behaviors. Platforms like Tiktok, Twitter, and Instagram spread rapidly with trends and social movements, thus creating social movements spread quickly and reach people everywhere in geography, language, and culture.

Social media impacts on trends, lifestyle, and popularity

Social media has become one the most influential forces shaping culture and society in the 21st century. One of the most significant impacts of social media are trends and typical traditions. Celebrities and influencers use these platforms to promote fashion, beauty, language, and lifestyle choices that millions of people follow. For example, viral trends such as pop music or the popularity of athleisure fashion shows spread culture quickly to many people. Social media is found to help make topics like mental health, gender identity, and self care become more natural. This allows popular people to share their stories and experiences online. In the article “The impact of social media influencers on health outcomes” states that “Consumption of social media content has become a routine aspect of many people’s lives. Social media influencers are an increasingly pervasive global phenomenon with the potential to exert wide influence on their followers”. (Powell and Pring 8) This statement understands how social media is becoming more normal for everyone and how influencers have power to shape trends, ideas, and even shared beliefs. Overall, social media has become a powerful tool that spreads ultra trends and ideals quickly around the world.

Social media has been totally transforming advertising and purchasing behaviors for consumers. Typical advertisements are increasingly more genuine and relatable than traditional ads because of people sharing honest experience with the product. Brands are also very important to media as they collaborate with smaller influencers, thus creating more commitment, trust, and reliability. This change can sometimes have a downside, it makes people want to buy too much and produce too much trash.

Social media misleading young adults

Despite the many benefits of social media it also presents some major issues with culture and social well being. Algorithms on social media often show users content that compares their own views, thus creating echo chambers. This is where young people mostly see and hear opinions, which stops them from learning about different ideas and viewpoints. Furthermore, social media can produce misinformation or hateful content towards young adults. This can lead to a negative effect on social cohesion and awareness. In the article “The Impact of Social Media on the Mental Health of Adolescents and Young Adults” states that “The growth of digital technology has affected numerous areas of adolescent lives. Nowadays, teenagers’ use of social media is one of their most apparent characteristics. Being socially connected with other people is a typical phenomenon, whether at home, school, or a social gathering, and adolescents are constantly in touch with their classmates via social media accounts”. (Khalaf, Alubied,Khalaf, Rifaey) This quote means that social media is now a big part of young adults’ lives. People use it all the time to stay connected with friends, social events, and school. Lots of these apps are made to target people that are younger people in generation Z. Overall, being on social media has become a normal way of interacting for young people. Thus creating an easier way to stay in touch with others and be part of the social world.

In conclusion, social media is a powerful culture and society by spreading new ideas and connecting people worldwide. This helps share different cultures, social causes, and change how people communicate. Social media also has its downsides with online bullying, spreading likewise views that limit understanding, and mental health problems. As social media grows, it is always changing how we live and think. That’s why it’s very important to understand the positives and negatives and consider both parts.
